Robert Bruce:

Attended University of Virginia and University of New Orleans. October 1961 to September 1963 served in U.S. Navy. 1973 to 2005 employed by the City of New Orleans Recreation Department at NORD’s Ty Tracy Theatre as scenery and costume designer. Designed and constructed scenery and/or costumes for more than 100 productions at NORD Theatre, as well as for productions at Le Petit Theatre and Children’s Corner, Rivertown Reparatory Theatre, Loyola University, the Pitt Theatre, Isadore Newman High School and Grace Episcopal Church.  Hurricane Katrina brought an end to the New Orleans Recreation Department and its Theatre Program in 2005.

 

Co-author and lyricist for 13 original musicals, all of which have been produced in Louisiana, and some of which have also been produced in Alabama, California, Florida, Mississippi, and/or New York: 1974 MOON OVER MONTEVIDEO, 1975 BABES, 1976 AMOURA OF THE ISLANDS, 1977 TUT-TUT, 1981 THE MAGIC FLUTE, 1986 LAMOURA AND THE CURSE OF THE VOODOO QUEEN, 1987 THE CARACAS MARACAS MURDERS, 1988 SILVER SCREAM, 1989 CINDERELLA BATTISTALLA, 1990 THE LOUISIANA TRAVELLING KNOW SHOW, 1991 THE TRIAL OF THE BIG, BAD WOLF and WONDERLAND, and 2003 THE PECAN CRACKER. Awards include the 1987 Big Easy Award, Best Original Play, THE CARACAS MARACAS MURDERS; 1989 Big Easy Award, Best Original Play, SILVER SCREAM; 1989 Big Easy Award, Best Costume Design, CINDERELLA BATTISTELLA; 1991 GE Arts in Education Award Nominee, THE LOUISIANA TRAVELLING KNOW SHOW; 1993 Cunchon, South Korea International Theatre Festival, Grand Prize Winner, THE TRIAL OF THE BIG, BAD WOLF; 2000 Storer Boone Award, Lifetime Achievement in Theatre; 2004 Big Easy Award, Lifetime Achievement in Theatre; and 2005 Storer Boone Award, Best Costume Design, PAGEANT.
