Linda Drumwright:
Attended Longwood College, Farmville, Va until the end of my junior year when I transferred
to the University of South Carolina following my marriage to Charles Sinclair-a
graduate of the University of Virginia.
I received my BS and Masters degrees from the University
of South Carolina and also earned forty
additional graduate hours from USC, Clemson University,
University of Tennessee,
and College of Charleston
as part of the National Science Foundation Professional Development Program for
Science Educators. I taught Honors and Advanced Placement Chemistry and Physics
at Lexington High
School for 16 years before accepting an
appointment at the SC Department of Education as State Science Consultant. While at Lexington HS, I was Science Department Chair, received the
Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching. I was SC
Chemistry Teacher of the Year, and SC Science Teacher of the Year. I was also
elected President of the SC Science Teachers and elected to the Board of
Directors of the National Science Teachers Association. I also received US Department of Energy
research appointments at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Savannah River
National Laboratory during the summers. During this time, my husband and I
became the parents of William, Dianne, and Sandy. All three were students at
LHS while I was teaching there-a very interesting experience. During my 16 year tenure at the SC Department
of Education, I have chaired numerous science standards writing teams, textbook
selection committees, provided professional development for thousands of
science teachers, served on the Board of the Council of State Science
Supervisors, etc.
We are now the proud grandparents of Chelsea,
Brie, Peyton, and Jackson. I am looking forward to retirement and being
able to spend more time with them as well as traveling.
