Judy
Nilsen –
After
graduation from PAHS and completing my nursing education at DePaul Hospital
School of Nursing and becoming a RN, I married Vaden
"Buck" Cudworth. Over the next few years we became parents of
two children - Alan and Wendy. Alan raises goats and Wendy is a CPA.
Employment followed as a Virginia Department of Public Health Nurse. In
1979 I became a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, completing a course of
study at VCU Medical College of Virginia. I continued to practice at the Norfolk
Health Department and later retired from the Virginia Beach Health
Department. During this time I was also adjunct faculty at Old Dominion University for the Nurse Practitioner
Program.
Being
empty nesters, we moved to Hertford, North Carolina, to our vacation and weekend
home, where we watch the tide change and the grass grow. Still having the
desire to be involved with the pediatric population, I became clinical director
and clinician of four school-based clinics in Pasquotank County. It did not get any
better than living where we wanted to live and working where I wanted to work
and being involved with the teenage population. We also live close enough
to our two granddaughters to spend time with then. Gradually I became a
volunteer in Hertford in the Master Gardner program, Historic Hertford Design
committee. the historic Newbold-White House kitchen
garden, and other projects. Buck and I enjoy traveling, especially
cruising, having been to most of the Caribbean Islands, Bermuda, Canada,
England, Ireland, Scandinavia, Germany, and looking forward to Alaska in
2010
