Princess Anne High School Class of 1960

50th Reunion
(Go Back to PAHS60 Data Base)

Dear Classmate,

The 50th reunion will be held 1-3 October 2010 in Virginia Beach, VA.

We have made arrangements with the Westin Virginia Beach Town Center Hotel, 4535 Commerce St., 757-557-0550, http://westin.com/virginiabeachtowncenter. Class of 1960 members will receive a special $119 a night room rate for that weekend by calling the hotel anytime prior to 1 September 2010.

The cost per person is $75 per person. That will cover the Saturday 2 October 7PM to 12PM reunion dinner/dance expenses (10,000 square feet banquet hall rental, dinner buffet, two cash bar bartenders, and a DJ), costs of snacks/drinks at the 37th floor owner's lounge hospitality suite on Friday 1 October and Saturday 2 October, and mailing costs associated with finding and informing classmates. We have arranged with an outside company to send a photographer to the dinner/dance to take pictures and create a color reunion booklet with those pictures and others we submit. The reunion booklet will then be available to all (attending or not) for $25. An additonal black/white roster with contact data, yearbook pictures, current pictures, and bio will be available for $10. If you haven't already done so, please mail (3156 Gallahad Drive, Virginia Beach, VA) or email (myers.russel@gmail.com) a current picture and summary of what you have been doing since 1960 to Russ for the reunion booklets. The web site roster will remain active for those who have the capability to print from the web site. Pictures of the reunion will be added to the web site.

The reunion activity schedule is as follows:

  1. Friday school day (8AM-2PM) willing class of 60 reunion attendees will be able to participate in “curriculum enhancement” activities. The idea is to apply our 50 years of experience to related classes during the day by providing the students a presentation of our career field and responding to 10 minutes of student questions. If you are interested in this activity, send an email to (or call) Bryan Bennett, bryanlbennett@gmail.com, 256-859-6711, and Linda Clark Simmons, coolnana75@hotmail.com, 757-467-6722, and they will give you the details.
  2. Friday evening (7-9PM) class of 60 reunion attendees will attend the PAHS football game as a group. We may have bus transportation from the Westin to the school.  The school is only about ½ mile from the hotel so walking is also an option. You can park at the Thalia Lynn Baptist Church parking lot next door where we will have informal (no alcohol) pre-game class of 60 tailgating.
  3. Saturday morning (10-12AM) class of 60 reunion attendees will be provided a guided tour of the school.
  4. The Saturday evening dinner/dance is the main event. We will have a 50/50 raffle at the dinner/dance to provide funds for a class of ’60 donation to PAHS.

The dress code for the dinner dance is known as "dressy casual". We found the definition on the web:

What is Dressy Casual For Men?

Many people do not consider jeans to be a part of dressy casual attire, but if the pair of jeans looks simple yet elegant, it can be worn. The best method for men to conform to dressy casual attire is by wearing a jacket or an over-coat along with a pair of jeans or khaki trousers. It is advisable not to wear a tie, as that makes the look very formal. An open collared shirt would suit most men very well.

Another option for men is to wear a sophisticated open-collared shirt without a jacket, and wear a comfortable pair of trousers along with that. Try to avoid loafers and sandals for footwear. Men can also try wearing a turtleneck sweater. To complete the look, it is recommended to shave and to get a haircut as well.

What is Dressy Casual For Women?

For dressy casual, it is required that women sport some accessories and appear well-coordinated. Slacks and a silk shirt along with that, would help pull off a casual yet semi-formal look. Wearing a pant suit would also be considered appropriate for women. Women should strictly avoid low-cut tops or t-shirts and like men, should stay away from t-shirts that have messages printed across them. Instead, women can opt for shirts or blouses or pretty much anything that does not look too shabby and does not reveal much skin. For accessories, long bead necklaces are a great tool, and great make up can finally complete the entire look in a more than satisfactory manner. Women should also avoid long flowing formal gowns or cocktail dresses, as these would be considered overly formal for the occasion.

For such a dress code, women must look to wear what they would usually wear to work, but a little more informal. Skirts are also great to pull off this look, but short skirts must be avoided. Tying a scarf around the neck also complements to the dressy casual look perfectly. Extremely high heels or stilettoes must be avoided, and instead women should wear semi-formal heels or flats.

As attendees register for the reunion at the Westin hotel hospitality suite on Friday or Saturday, we will have sign up sheets for "birds of a feather" lunch on Saturday or breakfast on Sunday (e.g., band members, jocks, cheerleaders, golfers, or just old friends who have stayed in touch).   The Saturday lunch and Sunday breakfast events will be self-organized and self paid. There is also the possibility of a golf outing on Sunday.

If you plan to attend, send your money to Jack Nichols, the reunion treasurer, as soon as possible. Make checks payable to “PAHS Reunion 50”. Mail your $75 per person payment to:
